I bought this because my 2006 dodge Durango kept showing the check engine light. Instead of paying for someone else to check the engine codes, I wanted to do it myself. This scanner let me know that the O2 sensor was bad and I was able to fix it myself without needing a mechanic. AWESOME!

Differences between this and a handheldReview by Chuck B "High-Tech Luddite" [Amazon review]

For any scan tool, there are 2 things:
1) The connector that fits into the OBD port on your car.
2) The interface that reads and reports the codes coming from your vehicle.

For this item, a PC is required for #2. That's exactly what I wanted. I didn't want a little hand held unit that I had to scroll line by line to see all the codes and then possibly have to go look up code values to see what it was telling me.

The software that comes with the unit has lots of features, but is still a bit basic. However, for anyone that's just looking to reset trouble codes, etc, it's just fine.

The big benefit of this unit is data logging. You can set whatever parameters you want and then set the software to log it while you're driving. You would spend WAY more for a handheld unit that did data logging.

If you want more analysis tools, then you can buy better software that will use the unit to collect data.

I had no problems installing the drivers and software needed to make everything work. SUPER simple, and I was reading the output of it on my cars within 30 minutes.

Im a little skeptical of scan tools especially since the market is now flooded by cheep, junky OBDll readers. but this is the real dea!l easy to use and an inexpensive addition to any any tool box. the add on programs got me some missing links, all and all this is an outstanding product. im ordering a bunch for all my techs! I LOVE THIS NEW SCANNER IT HAS A LOT OF GOOD FEATURES TO IT AND I LOVE THE GRAPHS IN IT, IT HAS ALREADY HELPED ME WITH A FEW PROBLEM VEHICLES AND IT LET ME SHOW MY CUSTOMERS WHAT IS WRONG WITH THEIR VEHICLE WHERE THEY CAN UNDERSTAND IT.
